The members of the GMR team have conducted hundreds of test programs for base and precious metals; our team provides vital experience to mineral processing for base and precious metal projects. The GMR team is also experienced with many industrial and other less common minerals and materials including fluorite, niobium, tantalum, corundum, and graphite. Our work includes flowsheet development in the lab, through to pilot plant construction and testing, and on to construction, commissioning and operations. We have also been involved with upgrading and optimizing operating plants.

GMR has extensive experience in crushing, grinding, flotation, gravity and magnetic separation, and classification that can be applied to your project.

Sulphide and Oxide Flotation – Flotation is a ubiquitous metallurgical practice in today’s mining industry used for the extraction of metals from both sulphide and oxide ores. Though commonplace, successful flotation requires a fine balance of several factors including grind size, reagent quantities, and tank size. GMR is pleased to be on the leading edge of metallurgical laboratories providing the best data to new and established mines and their process plants.

Gravity and Magnetic Separation – Gravity separation is one of the oldest mineral processing techniques, successful gravity separation depends on several variables including particle size and shape and the relative proportions of heavy to light particles in the material to be processed. GMR is well equipped to optimize both gravity and magnetic separation processes.


Hydrometallurgy involves the chemical separation of the metals of interest usually by a leach process, followed by purification and concentration of the resulting solution and then recovery of the metals. GMR is experienced with all common leach techniques including heap, pressure, atmospheric, tank/vat, and bioleach. We are also experienced in SART (sulphidization, acidification, recycle, and thickening) for precipitating copper and regenerating cyanide from the leach stream of the gold cyanidation process, as well as various other techniques for purification and concentration of the solution, and final metal recovery by electrowinning and precipitation.


GMR has recently worked on a project involving alkaline sulphide leach – selectively leaching arsenic from copper concentrate to reduce penalties from smelters.


GMR provides technical services to the mining industry to help identify and characterize treatment and remediation options for contaminants including acid rock drainage and metals leaching. We conduct the following work:

  • Acid Base Accounting (ABA) or static testing
  • Humidity cell testing (also known as kinetic testing)
  • Shakeflask extractions
  • Column leach studies
  • Mine or waste water treatment including High Density Sludge (HDS) extraction technology


GMR can accommodate a variety of pilot plants including:

  • Flotation – ½ tonne to 10 tonnes per day
  • Continuous bioleach
  • Atmospheric leaching
  • Column leaching for gold and copper to simulate heap leach
  • SART continuous process – for copper cyanide precipitation
